Coming to Torquay for our special event this weekend? Why don't you spend some extra time on the Surf Coast and check out some of our fave local hangs in our hometown.
Start off with a visit to our HQ, we love welcoming visitors and locals alike into our new custom designed shop. It's an experience in itself coming in here, and there's so many more products, treasures, bits n' bobs, to discover on-site, than online.
Ariba Ariba! Ole Mexican Fiesta dishes up authentic Mex share plates and party platters, amongst fantastic decor inside or out in the garden outdoor eatery. There's a sandpit play area for littlies, and lots of run-about room, so do yourself a favour and take your Mexican jumping beans to visit these guys for dinner from 5pm (not open for lunch).
If fish 'n' chips are more your deal, the same guys own Fisho's overlooking the beachfront, offering fresh and healthy options and the kids sandpit and blackboard gives grown-ups a chance to catch up too.
Try the Surf Seconds shops in Baines Crescent to nab some bargains for teens. This is Surf City, the home of all the Surf Shops, and a good tip is to head up to Bar 61 (above the Quiksilver Boardriders store) for good food and a game of pool. The kids go mad for the free arcade game, and they're set up with kids' toys too. We often see mothers groups meeting here for a coffee.
Surf Culture History - be sure to visit Surfworld Museum for an insight into the industry/culture that makes Torquay so unique and is the proving ground for many of us that work at Oishi-m (in positions at Quiksilver, Rip Curl, and the Rip Curl Pro Surfing Event). There's heaps of things to do and interactive exhibits for kids and adults alike.
Bells - walk the famed stairs onto the Bells Beach amphitheatre, where legends like Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore and Kelly Slater have left their mark on surfing folklore. You might be surprised to find that the approach into the surfing reserve is very rural, surrounded by rolling paddocks, cows and wild kangaroos that call this place home... visit at sunset and you'll see them grazing near the thicket of trees that offer them protection after dark. Keep your eyes peeled for resident echidnas who also live in the coastal shrub - what a place to call home?!
Take the kids for a run around on any of our amazing beaches along the Surf Coast! Yes the weather is colder, but running around, kicking a footy, having a game of beach cricket, is always a winner and builds up their appetites for afternoon tea!
Have you heard there's a new Chocolate Factory nearby?! The Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie is a must-do with kids (who are we kidding, adults don't need an excuse!), and it's conveniently located only 15minutes from our shop. Stop here for a decadent choccy fix, High Tea or a huge scoop of icecream, plus a massive run around in the fenced garden area complete with a sandpit and balls to play 'kick to kick'.
Need a Coffee hit?! Try Pond, Sticks and Stones, Ocean Grind or Ginger Monkey for our fave cups of courage. Thanks for the pic @oceangrind, we'll be in shortly for a cafe latte and a flick through the latest surf mags ;)
Could these meals look any more appealling?! The acai bowl and roasted carrot dish were almost too pretty to eat :) For all the best raw delights and our fave turmeric latte’s - head in to see our neighbours, Surfcoast Wholefoods, and dine amongst their organic produce.
Raven's Creek Farm is a cafe and farm shop, located in Moriac approximately 20mins away from our shop, specialising in artisan produce and meats. Their property is a biodiverse, naturally regenerating environment with a wide variety of produce including natural honey, free range eggs, seasonal vegetables, cut flowers, grass-fed lamb and true free range pork. In summer you can PYO berries too; well worth a visit anytime of the year.
Overlooking the front beach is one of the most iconic cafe's in town, the very family friendly Cafe Moby. Set in an old Torquay beach house, they offer wholesome goodies, meals and coffee, and there's a fully fenced playground out the back so you can (almost completely) relax and enjoy your fare.
Don't ya just love greenery?! This is Arizona Living, a secret gem in the cutest little laneway nursery we've ever seen! Visit Libby and her team for the best native and succulents plant, all under a fabulous geodesic dome. Pic by @arizona.living
Another couple of yummy options if you're looking for dinner options are in Bell St. Alisito's is a great authentic Mexican Baja Bar and Grill which offers a great new experience in Torquay. A few doors up the road you'll find a Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar called Roku Den, offering good food, respect, great service and a restaurant with a fun atmosphere.
Or you can always visit our photoshoot locations, and create your own memories in your fave Oishi-m… check out the map above that's pinned with all our fave parks and playgrounds in the region.
Thank you for supporting local Surf Coast businesses when you visit our region, we hope you enjoy your stay…
Can't wait to see you in Torquay town! Love Oishi-m xx
