Cafe with a playground - Moby on The Esplanade in a great cafe across from the beach that has a great big open space in the rear courtyard with a great playground for the small people to play around in.
Coffee - there's a few places that are worthy of mentioning for your daily dose of caffeine. Pond if you're after a light roast in downtown Torquay, The Usual Suspects Coffee Co (TUS) as well as Sticks and Stones both roast their own beans and are based near the surf shops. If Chai or Hot Chocolate (think melted Lindt Chocolate goodness) more your thing try Torquay Larder in Gilbert St.
Fish and Chips - the ocean is synonmous with fish and chips as a meal time staple. Go no further than Fisho's Torquay on the Esplanade. Sourcing their produce sustainably they are a beautiful gourmet fish and chippery that even come with an outdoor sandpit area for entertaining the kids.
Health Concsious Foodie - try the beautiful new The Kindness Co for lunch just opposite They are a vegan, dairy, gluten and sugar free cafe that have daily rotating menu of specials. Their cakes are to die for. Smoothies and Elixirs and Cups of Hugs available here! If you're heading further down the Great Ocean Road, be sure to pop into McGains Nursery, Cafe and Organic produce store.
Surf Shops - Torquay is the home of global heavy weights Rip Curl and Quiksilver (and also many of us at Oishi-m's previous employers) as well as the Australian home of Patagonia. The surf shops and seconds stores amongst the surf precinct on the Surf Coast Highway will have you covered for all your surfing needs.
Beaches - we are so fortunate to have so many world class surfing breaks and beautiful beaches. Cosy Corner for the kids, Torquay Point for the longboarders, Jan Juc for the grommets and Winki/Bells for the more elite of surfers.
