We're loving our new HQ, and the best part is that everything has it's place in our custom designed office and shop. The beauty of moving premises (despite all the hard work), is the opportunity to cleanse and de-clutter the 'stuff' that builds up in a place over time. We moved into a bigger location in Torquay Village only with the equipment, hardware and accoutrements that we choose to surround ourselves with, and the result is a workplace that feels fresh and productive, and a team that is thriving together in this environment.
With an abundance of space to work and thrive in, our team are all smiles, and feel right at home in this amazing new workplace. The kitchen is a multipurpose space, for our meetings as well as staff lunches (and sometimes unpacking deliveries when we need extra surface space!).
The loveliness of having the space to just 'be' in a beautiful environment should never be underestimated. Our kitchen (colloquially known here as our "Pinterest Kitchen") offers a sanctuary from our busy days, and an opportunity to sit and really enjoy a meal (albeit usually leftovers), a conversation, or a flick through a magazine without having to satisfy the needs of a child (we all need a moment that's just for YOU!). We value the breaks in our day, in fact in our week, to slow down a bit and savour every mouthful, knowing that outside work hours are pretty frenetic with our young families. This space is free of politics and drama, and celebrates the tribe that we have become.
Of course, most people don't see out the back, and it's the shop space they're familiar with. Our Retail Team are so special; they feel your feelings, and are a wonderful, warm and welcoming group of women. We believe we have a team like no other! They are people with the deepest hearts and souls, and truly value real connections with our customers and their children. Our shop displays are on constant rotation, and the team have so much fun and creative freedom in here. There’s only so many times you can re-style your own living room, so we bring out our styling flair in the shop! We believe in outstanding Customer Service, which begins as soon as you walk in the door or visit our website or need after sales support.
Our team is multidisciplinary, and it takes our whole village to make the magic happen.
Starting from the beginning of the product cycle, our amazing Production Manager makes our world go round! She is our 'go to' for washing tips, an in-house baking extraordinaire, and keeps us on a timeline with a calendar that extends well into the future. She does extensive wash testing, quality control, and is our logistics and operations guru.
Then there's the Design Department - flitting between the role of an artist making yardages, creating new silhouettes for new products, or visualising how 'this fabric goes with that' (when none of us can imagine the finished product?!), we couldn't be without our detail-focussed creative bubbler of ideas and inspiration. Our spaces are filled with funky, unique, award-winning childrenswear that is borne from mountains of fabric swatches, a whole lot of creativity and bucketloads of originality.
Next comes our Buying Team - they are numbers driven and excellent at extrapolating info from reports that guide decisions on budget and product sourcing. They are amazing at sourcing products from all over the world that complement our own range of Oishi-m clothing, often pulling out the crystal ball to make predictions on what we think our customers will like ;)
Someone has to manage all that stock, and this is the responsibility of our Inventory Manager. At Oishi-m we are never monochrome; we have colour coded signs and spreadsheets in our stock bays, and we love our highlighters and keeping things in order (if only our wardrobes and pantries at home were organised by our inventory team! We love their forward thinking, planning and attention to detail that keeps our stock in perfect order and makes sense of many overlapping seasons. It should come as no surprise that the most organised staff member has the added responsibility of being the Birthday Cake Monitor too!
Our Marketing is a collaboration between our inhouse team and out of house contributors. The melting pot of ideas is often overflowing and it is a delight to work with such fun and colourful products and people across such vocations as illustration and graphic design. We have spreadsheets and checklists, skypes and ideas flowing over cups of chai and bliss balls. We do some in-house photography and flat lays for social media and content creation. Most of it happens on the fly, while other things are scheduled and set up especially with tripods, cameras, lights and a myriad of possiblities of how we can style and outfit our garments and accessories.
Our photoshoots happen regularly, and we have Photographers for all seven ranges we release annually. These guys are the best; Jarrah and Ed take our stills (before jetting off to shoot a far-flung surf break) and Dave is our videographer and is almost an uncle to these kids after all these years! #UncleDaveandEd
Copywriting is the dream job for our resident wordsmith who relishes in finding the perfect word in the thesaurus. She is a lover of Pantone colour names and brings our ecommerce experience to life with her storytelling. Our Social Media expert loves writing posts for our Facebook and Instagram community, and her favourite parts of the job include seeing tagged photos of customers loving our gear,
Our Ecommerce Team are everything from strategists, digital marketers, admin support, speadsheets and upload masters to troubleshooters and developers for the constant evolution of our updates and website upgrades. The nature of being “On the Line” is that we can access our website and make improvements from wherever we are in the world and whatever adventures we may be having. The nature of cloud-based business these days means that our book-keeper manages to do our payroll even when she's skiing in Europe! Our Buyers can run reports whilst travelling for Trade Shows, and we can always check in with staff no matter where we are on any given day.
Our Makers - between our local makers and international makers we love working and developing new products and shapes and turning them into pieces that are loved by our customers. We have great relationships with patternmakers and craftspeople who turn our design ideas into the physical pieces you see in-store and online.
It really is beautiful here. Our custom built Packing Table is where we wrap your presents and web orders, with Doo Doo Pickle tissue paper and a handwritten love note for every parcel. The brass ribbon holder was custom made to make our wrapping bay more efficient, and makes us smile every time we walk past it...
We celebrate together regularly; this is us letting our hair down at the recent Geelong Mums Fundraiser, and we can't wait for our next round of corporate volunterring at their premises.
Our shop is such a special place to visit, and even more special to call this our workplace and be amongst friends. Come in and experience the good vibes for yourself at our Torquay store, or order something cool online and you'll feel the love when you receive a handwritten love note from our peeps xxx.
