Coming to Torquay for our special event this week...? Here's some of our suggestions for awesome places to visit.
Dose up on surf culture and heritage while you're in Torquay, the home of Bells Beach and birthplace of iconic brands Rip Curl and Quiksilver. Surf City Plaza is a shopping precinct devoted to the sport, so stock up on the latest gear or bag yourself a bargain from the Baines Court Surf Seconds Outlets. While you're there, capture the spirit of surf culture with a visit to the Surf World Surfing Museum with pictures and hands-on displays.
The official start point of the Great Ocean Road, Torquay is Victoria's surfing and beach worship capital. Visit over Easter and see the world's best surfers compete in the Rip Curl Pro, and maybe even bump into Kelly Slater at the supermarket checkout!
Families play on the protected beaches like Cosy Corner or Fisho's, while the more experienced go surfing at nearby Jan Juc or tackle the bigger swells of Bells Beach. Prefer to stay dry? Stroll along sandy beaches beneath towering cliffs or take fine views of the coast from vantage points along the Surf Coast Walk.
While at it's busiest in the hot summer months, Torquay is a year-round destination and the locals love their sleepy town that almost goes into lockdown over winter. We are a town that appreciates good bread and chai latte’s. We love our postie that rides a tricycle into town and leaves her helmet with us at Oishi-m while she does her groceries. We're all about 'sharing the love', so here's a round up of some of our fave local hangs:
Cafe’s with playground - Moby. Comfy space for wood-fired pizza and brekkie, with live music and a secure outdoor playground for kids.
Best Coffee - Pond. Sensational view of the ocean and great food and coffee.
Best Chai and Hot Chocolates - Torquay Larder. Their hot chocolate will leave you speechless with it's melted chocolate base. Yummy cakes and morsels too.
Fish and Chips - Fisho’s. Overlooking Fisherman's Beach, locally sourced fresh seasonal fish and produce. Image of Fisho's boxes above by @riifika on instagram.
Taco’s - Taco Truck. Cliff St, we love the '3 for..' variety deal.
Interesting Japanese - Roku Den. The Tofu Chips are to die for.
Shopping for teenagers - Surf shops, Baines Court Surf Seconds Outlets.
Girls night out - Senors for tapa style share plates and cosy drinks.
Surfworld Museum - The spirit of surf culture and history.
Bells Beach - Stunning natural amphitheatre and globally recognised marine sanctuary, this is a must-visit location.
And of course, all roads lead to our Torquay store - can't wait to meet you at Oishi-m!
